Celebrating Earth Day

Happy Earth Day! Every year on Earth Day we consider how we’re doing on the “going green” scale and take steps to be more eco-friendly. Over the years, we’ve seen the marketing industry as a whole become greener, and this year is no different. When Street Level Studio’s doors opened, a large majority of our clients’ marketing materials were printed. While there is and always will be a demand for print ads, brochures, and catalogs, increasingly our clients have turned to email and web-based marketing strategies.
Although this shift has been dictated by consumer behavior, a terrific benefit is a greener marketing industry. According to The Daily Green, a consumer’s guide to green from GoodHousekeeping.com, cutting down on office paper use by 10% in the U.S. would prevent the emission of 1.6 million tons of greenhouse gases. So hooray for Mother Earth and email and web-based marketing campaigns!
Going beyond our inherently greener marketing campaigns, we try to do our part in the office as well. Last fall, we replaced all of our incandescent bulbs with CFLs, which use 75% less energy than standard bulbs. Our printers produce double-sided copies, and we save energy by turning off computers at night and keeping lights in common areas off when not in use.

Founder Joe Davis loves to collect and reuse items to decorate his office.
One visit to our office and you’ll see recycling is part of our culture. The many found treasures that line our walls not only inspire us, but happen to be a green approach to décor. Of course, there is always room for improvement—did you know that placing a plastic container filled with stones in a toilet’s reservoir displaces 4 liters of water per flush? Hmm, where can I find stones this weekend?
We’d love to hear how your business is going green this year. Let us know in the comments!
