On a recent trip to New York City, I was fortunate to see Beijing-based artist Song Dong’s Projects 90, his recent work titled WASTE NOT at MoMA. A collaboration first conceived with the artist’s mother, the installation consists of the complete contents of her home, amassed over fifty years. The resulting work was beautifully arranged by subject matter and designed to show the diversity and similarity of objects one uses for simple daily survival. A stunning display of design, shape and color. Notice how the artist’s intentional composition creates amazingly rich textures.
