Street Level Studio Finds a New Way to Commute

As reported in the Highwood Gazette, March 24, 2015.
Entire Street Level Studio Staff Unicycles to Work
HIGHWOOD, IL — Local graphic design and marketing agency Street Level Studio has seized the first days of spring with an innovative approach to commuting. Inspired by their fearless web developer, Zach Wenner, who unicycles to work daily, the Street Level Studio staff have challenged themselves to join him. “Zach made it look so easy, we all wanted to get in on the fun,” commented Founder Joe Davis.
The benefits to the team have been numerous. Davis cannot stop talking about how energetic he feels. “You feel younger. Maybe it’s just hanging out with my homies at the skate park, but I feel great. You put in a couple of strong hours after work learning a new
trick, and you feel like you can accomplish anything.” That youthful vigor and strong work ethic have paid off for Davis. His after-hours practice time recently resulted in an invitation to join The Unicycle Games, the nation’s largest unicycling competition and fountainhead for all one-wheeled trick competitions held annually in Portland, OR.
“I’m so stoked! Can’t wait to shred that [half-] pipe with one wheel,” he replied when he heard the news.
However, not everyone at Street Level Studio has been optimistic about commuting on a unicycle.
Kent Brubaker, web developer and one-wheeled vehicle detractor, responded with, “Are you kidding me? It’s only got one wheel. I might as well ride a wheelbarrow to work. At least someone else is there to help you with the heavy lifting.”
After a few lessons from Zach, soon it was nothing but smooth sailing for Brubaker and the whole Street Level team.
Team member and graphic designer Michelle Sidney rather enjoys her commute every day. While riding up the street, sipping her tea, she states, “You know, I thought I would just hate the eight hours it takes to get here from Rockford in the morning. But having to constantly focus on not ending up in a ditch somewhere looking a hungry raccoon in the eye has really honed my concentration skills. I feel like I can get so much more done in the day regardless of how much chaos there is in the office.”
So what’s next for Street Level Studio?
“We’re all into March Madness, so we scheduled a unicycle basketball game today at lunch in the parking lot,” reported team captain Wendy Davis. “Couldn’t be a finer spring day to do it than April 1st, right?”
Happy April Fools’ Day, everyone!
