Street Level Survey

We posed this question to our Street Level Studio team, and here are the responses.

I would fulfill my serious case of wanderlust. I'd start my travels by absorbing much of the culture throughout Europe and create a photo journal to document all my excursions. My trip would conclude in Paris with taking lots of pastry classes, in addition to eating my way through some of the finest pastry and chocolate shops!

Joe | Founder
Hmm…Write screenplays, shoot video, and create short films. Right now, I'm limited to this activity before and after work only. I think I'd enjoy doing it 12 hours a day, though.

Zach | Web and Interactive Developer, Programmer
I would restore an old Airstream trailer or motorhome and road trip around the country. I would visit as many national parks as possible, hike everyday, and visit my relatives across the States. I still love web development, so I would set aside a few hours every day to provide website work for no charge for charities and non-profits needing web help!

Kent | Web and Interactive Developer, User Interface Designer
Let's start by assuming I'm not sitting on my couch eating potato chips for six months. The next assumption we should make is that I got through that month-long video game binge. With five months left, I would probably start by finishing all those little design projects (t-shirts, tattoos) I have in my head. Then I would move on to something bigger like writing that one novel everyone has in them. Or, maybe I would take up building space-themed Calder-ian mobiles. Oh! I forgot to mention I would probably want to travel.

Wendy | Founder
I would get in my car and travel. There is so much to see and do in this country that I haven't seen or done yet. I would only pick states and sights that are new to me. I would start out heading to the South Carolina coast; stay along the coast through Georgia; then travel west, taking whatever time I'd want to get to New Mexico. All this imagining is very exciting!

Brian | Digital Services Director
At my former company, this is the time of the year for our charity fundraising efforts. So, in that spirit, I would merge the best toy, food, bakery, and entertainment planning companies for the singular purpose of delivering the largest birthday celebration for underprivileged children all over the world. It would be the biggest birthday party ever for children that really need someone to say “Happy Birthday.”

James | Web and Interactive Development Manager, User Experience Designer
I would travel to locations that have inspired famous pieces of artwork, such as the Yosemite Valley, which was a location for many Ansel Adams photographs, and the flower garden at Giverny, which inspired many Claude Monet paintings. I would then visit the museums that contain the original pieces of art that were created based on inspiration from these locations.

I would love to show my girls the world and hopscotch around, but in truth, that would be tiring for an 8- and 9-year-old. Instead, I'd rent a house in Italy on the coast and do some weekend excursions from there. But mostly, we'd slow down, tend a garden, buy fresh groceries daily, walk barefoot, paint some furniture, and try to learn Italian. Sounds dreamy!

Laura | Graphic and Visual Designer, Copywriter
I would rent out an amusement park, fly in all my family and friends who live far away, and host a giant, week-long carnival. I’d hire my favorite comedians and bands to perform, and I’d set up a “glampground” (a glamorous campground) next to the park so everyone could relax and hang out when they weren’t busy drinking root beer floats and enjoying the rides!

Michael | Creative Director
Well, at first, I thought I’d pack up my family and travel. I could show my son the wonders of the world and introduce him to cultures and people he will only read about. Then I thought it would be pretty cool to build a life-size Minecraft land. I’d be the coolest dad ever!!!

Tanya | Principal, Account Services Director
In a heartbeat, travel! One plan would be to take my family, hire a small boat and crew, and sail from Gibraltar around the Mediterranean stopping at ports of interest, such as: Casablanca, Alexandria—traveling inland to the pyramids is a must—Israel, Tripoli, and returning to Cyprus. On to Turkey with a jaunt into the Black Sea region, and then to Greece to visit Thessaloniki, Athens, and the islands. Up the Adriatic coast, then down the Italian coast stopping in Venice, Ravenna—must see the Byzantine mosaics!— around “the boot,” Naples, Rome (of course), and Pisa. Haven't even gotten to France and Spain yet but must at least stop in before returning to Gibraltar. Looks as if six months isn't going to do it, I think I'll need a year (and to win the lotto)!
